Revised Records

For this week’s song review, I wanted to switch things up. The last two songs I reviewed were alt rock, so this week’s song will be Trepidation by Stan Christ. This song is a fast paced dance song falling under the techno genre of EDM. Stan Christ is a techno DJ and producer based in The Netherlands. I am very new to the techno and dance music world in general, but Stan Christ has stood out to me because of his fast paced and dark beats that pack a punch. Techno beats generally range from about 130-150 beats per minute. Trepidation comes in at 150 bpm, so as far as techno this is one of the faster songs. Along with its fast pace the track has an almost frightening energy to it. Trepidation is defined in the dictionary as “a feeling of fear or agitation about something that may happen.” I think that this perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the song. It definitely isn’t for everyone though. I showed the song to some of my friends and they thought it was a bit too intense for them. I went to the song’s Youtube video to see what other people thought about the song. One user said “When that Bass Kicked in I wasn’t sure if I’m supposed to dance or have a seizure. Absolutely amazing. Thanks Stan for the amazing banger.” The song opens with some type of synth sounding instrument and a hi-hat that lasts about 40 seconds before the bass drops. The rhythm of the song is pretty simple, just like other techno songs. However, when the bass finally kicks in it comes in hard. The loud and fast rhythm makes you want to stand up out of your chair and start dancing. Overall, I highly recommend this song if you want to hear a song that will attack your ears with a hard fast techno beat.
